Ahmad Negash Mosque

Negash or Nejashi (Arabic Version) Mosque is as old as the faith of Islam in Ethiopia. It is the first mosque in Africa. It is found in Tigray. The name, Negash, is derived from king Armah "Al-Nejashi". The mosque was built in the 7th century AD and is considered by many as the second most sacred place of Islamic worship and rightly dubbed by some as "The Second Mekkah".


Debre Damo Monastery

It is an amazing ancient monastery found in Tigray. It was established in the 6th century. Only those who dare to climb the mountain, on which the monastery lies, using a rope reach Debre Damo. Because of the traditional norm, women are not allowed to enter the monastery.


Dirrie Shiek Hussein

Dirrie Shiek Hussein, formerly called "Zuqxum Said", is an Islamic Shrine, built by Sheik Hussein, more than 820 years ago. The grave of the holy man is found in the Shrine. There is also a historical mosque found I the same compound located in Bale Zone, 600 kms south-east of Addis Ababa.


The Grand Anwar Mosque

This mosque is found at the center of Addis Ababa. It is an amazing sight for tourists particularly on Fridays, when thousands of Muslims make their prayers in congregation.


The Jama'a Mosque
The mosque is found in Harar. Its slender minaret was built in 1761-62.

Kidest Selassie Church

The church is found in Gondar. It is rectangular structure is decorated with beautiful winged angels and walls depicting biblical events.


St.George Church

St.George is one of the finest Orthodox church buildings in Addis Ababa. It exhibits an astonishing work of architecture. This is where Emperor Haile Selassie I, who ruled Ethiopia from 1931 to 1974, was crowned.


St.Mary Tsion of Aksum

The church, which attracts many visitors is found in Aksum (Axum), Tigray. St. Mary Tsion is believed to be the first church in Sub-saharan Africa and the last resting place of the Ark of the Covenant.


Yeha's Temple of the Moon

A large pre-Christian temple, erected around the 5th century B.C, is found in Tigray. It's massive walls house Judaic relics and historic artifacts.
