Holy days The event is colorfully celebrated every year across the country by Muslim faith, particularly by the mass prayer held at the Addis Ababa Stadium. On the occasion, Muslims slaughter sheep in the honor of Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son.
The event marks the end of Ramadan fasting. Muslims colorfully celebrate this Islamic festival every year across the country. In the capital the holiday is particularly celebrated at the Addis Ababa stadium where mass prayer is part of the festival.
"Enkutatash" is the Ethiopian New Year. It is a colorful celebration of both the New Year and the Feast of John the Baptist at a time when endemic flowers cover all highlands of Ethiopia. On the eve of Enhkutatash, people light yup torches outside their homes and welcome the festive event.
"Ge'nna" marks the Ethiopian Christmas, taking place in January. The eve is celebrated inside churches where candle burning is part of the ceremony.
The celebration to commemorate the finding of the True Cross is an interesting religious event that takes place in September among Ethiopian Orthodox Christians. In the capital, the eve is colourfully celebrated at Meskel Square with massive bonfire.
It is celebrated by Muslim Ethiopians in remembrance of Prophet Mohammed. Mauled is one of the most sacred days celebrated by Ethiopian Muslims every year.
Good Friday or Ethiopian "Siklet" and Easter or Ethiopian "Fasika" are mostly celebrated in April. These two important religious holidays are colorfully celebrated by Ethiopian Christians.
St. Gabriel Day, which takes place twice a year in July and December, is one of the most colourful religious ceremonies of the Orthodox Christians. This religious ceremony is popular among foreigners. Hundreds of thousands of Orthodox Christians make pilgrimage to "Kulbi", a place 465 kms east of Addis Ababa.
The original Ark of the Covenant is said to be housed in the church of St. Mary of Tsion. A spectacular ceremony takes place in Aksum in November of every year. On this particular day, Orthodox Christians congregate in large crowd to pray in due respect of St. Mary.
Epiphany or Ethiopian "Timkat" falls in January every year and is colourfully celebrated among the Orthodox Christians. The event commemorating the baptism of Jesus Christ is extremely colourful.
